 Torrey Pines Municipal Golf Course is located just 20 minutes North of downtown San Diego on the coastal bluffs of Southern California, between the cities of La Jolla, CA and Del Mar, CA. There are two 18-hole Golf Courses - Torrey Pines North and Torrey Pines South. Both golf courses are played by the PGA TOUR professionals during the Buick Invitational of California held in January or February every year. The courses were originally designed by William Bell, Sr. in 1957. In 2001, at a cost of $ 3.5 million, Torrey Pines South Course was renovated and redesigned by Rees Jones. The renovation and redesign made Torrey Pines South longer and more difficult and it was subsequently selected by the USGA to host 2008
U.S. OPEN Championship. Now both golf courses provide some of the most dramatic golf ocean views from several holes - Torrey Pines South Hole # 3 Par 3 now joins Torrey Pines North Hole # 6 Par as one of the most scenic signature holes in all of golf.
Both Torrey Pines Golf Courses are open and available for public play although getting tee times can be difficult. 70% of all Torrey Pines tee times are ONLY available to San Diego City Residents holding a Resident ID and special Pin # by participating in a telephone tee time lottery conducted by Torrey Pines Golf Course and held every evening at 7 p.m. for tee times 7 days in advance. Every City Resident phone has an equal opportunity to get "the lucky ring" and a confirmed tee time in this unique Torrey Pines tee time lottery.
Tee times for San Diego County Golfers and Visiting Golfers from around the world used to be available via the same telephone tee time lottery discussed above but that access was discontinued in August 2006. In it's place 12% of the tee times are made available up to 90 days in advance via the Torrey Pines Administration Office for an additional non-refundable advance booking fee of $ 39 per player above the regular Non-Resident green fees listed below.
San Diego City Residents may also access 12% of the resident tee time allocation in a similar advance reservation system for additional non-refundable advance fee of $ 28 per player above the regular resident green fees.
NOTE: San Diego Golf Reservations can assist visiting golfers in accessing this advance reservation system to secure a guaranteed Torrey Pines tee time reservation up to 90 days in advance. The Service / Convenience Fee for this service is $ 25 per player.
Torrey Pines History / Trivia: The name of the course comes from the many Torrey Pine trees on both courses. These trees are the rarest pines trees in the country and only live in two locations - Santa Rosa Island off the coast of Santa Barbara and here in San Diego on Torrey Pines Golf Course and within the Torrey Pine State Reserve.
